More Adventurers/Characters/Explorators

Postby Littick » Sun Jan 31, 2016 8:54 am

I could not find a clear topic about that. As I just discovered the game and haven't seen yet unlocked explorers, it's also a bit of guess of what's in game. :-)

That's why it's just a list of names without much details. I only tried stick more or less of what seems the spirit of the game for this element.

Roald Amundsen
T. E. Lawrence
Jacques Cousteau
H. G. Wells
Jules Verne
Professor Challenger/Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Albert Einstein
Thomas Edison
Sigmund Freud
Nikola Tesla
Mahatma Gandhi
Enrico Fermi
Allan Quatermain/Sir H. Rider Haggard
Indiana Jones/Indie Anna Joe :-P

For sure Indie Anna Joe should at least have a whip and a hat. :-)

I had a few ideas for more characters as well, after seeing how dark this game gets:

Henry Morton Stanley
David Livingston
Joseph Conrad

Sorry to bump an old thread but I thought this was better than making a new one!

Some characters I think could be good for the game (they're all 19th century, they all either travelled extensively, had some kind of exoticizing relationship with nature, or had some thoughts about mysticism and the occult):

Mary Shelley (could have the +standing perk, after her late travelogue; could have a friendly abomination in the party)
Lord Byron (he was Lovelace's dad, you know!) (could have a combat perk, or get a bonus from freeing slaves)
Henry David Thoreau (could have 'fresh air fanatic'; could have a female cook in party as tongue-in-cheek reference to his mom cooking his dinners)
Florence Nightingale (could have a perk that prevents sicknesses?)

The Barbizon School Painters (I thought this could go two ways: you reduce the whole school to one character, say, Théodore Rousseau or Jean-Francois Millet, who are the most famous, and give them an artist and a journalist as starting party; the other way would be to create a unique party that has the three founders of the school as inseparable partners, so when you choose this 'explorer' you choose the whole School, and while all of them would be artists they could have different dice)

Taking advantage of the fact you included Garvey in the game, I also want to suggest a few non-'global north' characters that could still fit with the whole imperial theme (easy to Google! same as above, 19th century, they travelled extensively, or have an exoticized view of nature, or were close to mysticism):

Rubén Darío, Nicaraguan founder of modernismo and big influence on magical realism (he could have the dream visions perk)
José Martí, Cuban national hero (could have a perk that makes companions immune to negative loyalty effects?)
José Juan Tablada, Mexican experimental poet and pioneer of 'oriental' studies (he could have a perk that increases the chances of finding Tome pages?)
Ibrahim Sinasi, one of the founders of the Young Ottomans (charismatic perk; with a new companion! the Ottoman soldier has blue/red dice)
Nehanda Nyakasikana, Zimbabwean woman hero (could use shaman dice; could have a perk that increases her HP since she was thought to be super hard to kill? could also receive bonus of some kind when freeing slaves)
Sri Aurobindo, Indian guru and mystic (could have strong mind perk; or a perk that makes companions immune to coca leaf effects?)

That's all I have for now, I hope you get some inspiration from these!
